Why was my Meta ad account restricted, and what can I do?

Wafa DridiLast updated: اقرأ بالعربية

Meta restricts an ad account when its automated systems or reviewers decide that the account, a connected profile, or its ads don't meet Meta's Advertising Standards or Community Standards. The usual triggers are rejected ads, unusual login or payment activity, and problems with the people or Pages connected to the account. You can see the exact reason in Account Quality, and in many cases you can request a review there. The steps below explain how.

Start here: find the exact reason

Before changing anything, check what Meta actually flagged.

  1. Go to Account Quality (accountquality.facebook.com, or through Meta Business Suite).
  2. Select the restricted asset: the ad account, Business Portfolio, Page or personal profile.
  3. Read the stated reason, and check whether a Request review option is shown.

The restriction is sometimes on a person's profile or on the Business Portfolio, not on the ad account itself. Fixing the wrong asset wastes time.

The most common causes we see

1. Repeated ad rejections

Several rejected ads in a short period can lead to a wider restriction. Common reasons for rejection include:

  • claims about personal attributes ("Are you overweight?")
  • before-and-after images
  • exaggerated income or results promises
  • sensitive health topics
  • landing pages that don't match the ad

2. Suspicious login or security activity

Logins from new countries or devices, shared passwords, or an admin profile that was compromised can all trigger a security restriction.

3. Payment problems

Failed payments, cards that don't match the business details, or several cards added and removed in a short time.

4. Problems with a connected person or Page

If an admin's personal profile is restricted, the ad accounts they manage can be affected too.

5. A new or unverified business setup

New accounts that spend quickly, or Business Portfolios with incomplete details, get more scrutiny.

6. Industry-specific rules

Real estate, health, finance and other regulated categories have extra advertising requirements, both in Meta's policies and under local regulations.

What to do, step by step

  • Don't create a new ad account to work around the restriction. Meta may treat this as circumventing its systems, which can make things worse.
  • Fix the cause first. Edit or delete non-compliant ads, clear failed payments and remove unknown admins.
  • Secure the account. Turn on two-factor authentication for every admin, and remove former staff and agencies you no longer work with.
  • Complete your business details. Make sure the Business Portfolio has the correct legal name, address, website and contact details, and complete business verification if Meta asks for it.
  • Request a review from Account Quality. Keep your explanation short and factual.
  • Wait for the decision. Review times vary, and the final decision rests with Meta.

How to reduce the risk next time

  • Keep at least two admins, each with two-factor authentication.
  • Assign roles in Business Manager instead of sharing passwords.
  • Check ad copy against Meta's Advertising Standards before publishing.
  • Make sure the landing page matches what the ad promises.
  • Review who has access every quarter.

Frequently asked questions

Can every restricted account be recovered?

No. It depends on the reason and the account's history. A clear diagnosis tells you early whether a review is likely to succeed.

How long does a review take?

It varies. Some reviews finish quickly, others take longer. Meta doesn't guarantee a timeframe.

Should I contact Meta support?

Yes, if support is available for your account. Use only official Meta channels. Be cautious of anyone offering guaranteed "unbans" for a fee.
