How to check whether ChatGPT recommends your business
To check whether ChatGPT recommends your business:
- Write 5–10 questions a real customer would ask, such as "best physiotherapy clinic in Manama".
- Ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, in both English and Arabic.
- Record whether your business is mentioned, whether the details are correct, and which websites the answer cites.
Repeat the test every month to track changes.
Step 1: write real customer questions
Use the questions customers type, not your company name. Mix these three types:
| Type | Example |
|---|---|
| "Best" questions | "What are the best gyms in Juffair?" |
| Problem questions | "Who can fix a restricted Meta ad account in Bahrain?" |
| Brand questions | "What is [your business name]?" |
Write each question in both English and Arabic. The answers often differ between the two.
Step 2: test in a clean session
- Use a new chat, and preferably a logged-out or private browser window, so past conversations don't influence the answer.
- Where the tool offers web search, make sure it is turned on. This shows what the tool finds online now, not only what it learned in training.
- Test ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and check Google's AI answers where they appear.
Step 3: record the results
For each question, note:
- Mentioned? Yes or no, and your position if there is a list.
- Accurate? Name, services, location and contact details.
- Sources cited: which websites the answer links to.
- Competitors named.
A simple table works:
| Question | ChatGPT | Gemini | Perplexity | Sources cited | Competitors |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| e.g. Best real estate agency... |
Step 4: read what the results tell you
- Not mentioned anywhere: AI tools can't find enough trustworthy information about you yet.
- Mentioned but with wrong details: your information is inconsistent across the web.
- Competitors mentioned, with sources cited: those sources show where you need to be listed or featured.
Step 5: improve your visibility
- Make sure your website loads and can be read by crawlers (check robots.txt and the sitemap).
- Create one clear page per service, with the answer in the first paragraph.
- Add an FAQ page in English and Arabic.
- Keep your name, phone, website and location identical on your website, Google Business Profile, social profiles and directories.
- Get mentioned on other websites: reviews, directories, articles and interviews.
- Add structured data (schema) to your website.
How long does it take?
It varies by tool and by how much information exists about your business. New businesses usually need several weeks to a few months of consistent work before they appear. Test monthly, not daily.
